This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!'... and Gon's Balls will whisper 'First... comes... rock!' Hah! Made you stare at Naruto's Marshmallow! Pushing the logo off-center to drive TheOcean insane.

Lightbulb G-Anime 2015 Post Convention Report

G-Anime 2015 Convention Report – January 23-25 from Gatineau, Quebec at http://ganime.ca/2015/

The convention year of 2015 kicked off in Gatineau with G-Anime! It was a fun little 3 day affair for a few thousand attendees coming from all over, as my new Nintendo 3Ds XL indicated with Street Pass locating people came from not just Quebec and Ontario but also Alberta in Canada, the USA, and as far as England, Japan and even Suriname! The 404s Improv Comedy troupe entertained fans for 2 nights straight in the Chapleau Room that held about 200 people for both packed shows.

The 2 shows featured special internet guest Doug Walker the Nostalgic Critic (https://www.youtube.com/user/LeagueOfSuperCritics ) for a late night show, then a second late night show around the theme of Improv Cards against Humanity. There were many fun games and scenes such as a Green Screen news report about Donkey Kong Country. There was a funeral procession for The Nostalgic Critic featuring some unique mourners like the Angry Video Game Nerd as well as Chicago mobsters and creditors before The Critic made a miraculous reawakening. Serenades and Rap Battles were sung. There was a Murder Telephone scene of Kim Kardashian killed in the MMOPRG anime Sword Art Online with a wine bottle. Movies for topics like the Legend of Zelda got acted out as well.

Fans also got to get in various suggestions including scenes for the hat like ‘New uses for the Sonic Screwdriver’, and ‘Rejected Pokemon names’. They also got Random Lines read in scenes such as “I choose you, Pikachu!”, “Thy meat is disgusting,” and “I set off the fire alarms and I have no regrets!” Meanwhile some silly characters showed up ranging from Hakone from the new magical guy anime Cute High Earth Defense Club Love! To Mako Mankanshoku from Kill La Kill. I was present in my simple Shinra cosplay from Durarara with my Celty plushie and met some fellow Durarara cosplayers too.

It was a generally smooth drive up and back before the big Blizzard Juno hit North America to start the last week of January. It gave time to look around Ottawa and Gatineau while also enjoying the convention itself in the Palais des Congres. There were lots of attendees in awesome cosplays as shows like Durarara, Yowapeda and Gugure!! Kokkuri-san were among returning or new anime being featured among shows popular over the last few years like the Avatar the Last Airbender/Legend of Korra series, Sailor Moon and Attack on Titan.

The Games Room was another packed place of the convention. I got to play Sunset Riders Arcade Game to completion twice which is always fun as it’s one of my favourite all time games. I also got to play some console games like Killer Instinct on the SNES as Orchid and Riptor, and the DC Comics video game Injustice: Gods Among Us on the PS3 as Cyborg and Deathstroke. I got in a few Magic the Gathering Commander 100 card deck games in with my Green Elf Flash deck.

I got some time to see other events too. I attended the Lolita Fashion Panel where the 4 panelists, that included a friend named Cadney, gave a great overlook of the history from simpler outfits to the more elaborate cupcake shaped dresses and many accessories to style the hair or colour code the outfit, distance of different colour schemes from head to toe, different styles shown via a laptop presentation like gothic, and the changes of things like losing umbrellas to more hairstyles simple or complex.

Finally here is this trip’s bounty and finds in the Dealers Room and Artist Alley:

*From the Artists Alley, items bought included a Pokemon Purple Psychic Symbol Keychain, a Kill La Kill Nonon button, and a towel set of my choosing of insignias so I chose Ed Elric’s symbol from Full Metal Alchemist for the face towel and the Fire Nation symbol for the hand towel, both red in colour.
*Got a few pre-release Pokemon XY Primal Clash boosters and Yu-Gi-Oh! Secrets of Eternity boosters from Carta Magica
* A super lucky find was a used copy Pokemon Y for my new Nintendo 3DS.
* A nice rep from Nintendo also gave out free buttons and a Super Smash Brothers Champion Paper Belt.

It was a fun time and the staff/liaisons were great in handling everything. It was also nice to meet old and new friends, and all sorts of attendees just to hang out and playing arcade games to talking about anime, TV and other general topics for casual chats. Looking forward to next time up to Quebec, merci!
